Swiggy Faces Controversy Over Alleged Rs 3 Overcharges; Company Responds

In a recent controversy, food delivery giant Swiggy found itself in hot water as users alleged that they were charged an additional Rs 3 for each order placed through the platform. The issue came to light when a user, going by the name ‘kingslyj,’ took to social media, specifically X (formerly Twitter), to report that Swiggy was rounding up transaction amounts to the nearest whole number, resulting in a perceived overcharge of Rs 3.09. This user also noted a shift from Swiggy’s previous practice of charging exact amounts down to the paisa.

Following this user’s revelation, many other Swiggy users scrutinized their order histories and confirmed similar extra charges on their orders. The allegations raised concerns among Swiggy’s customer base.

In response to these allegations, Swiggy acted promptly and addressed the issue. The company clarified that the overcharges were not intentional but rather the result of a technical glitch within their system. Swiggy assured users that they had paid the correct amount during the checkout process and that any discrepancies between their order history and the actual amount paid were solely due to the technical bug. The company went on to confirm that their technical teams had identified and resolved the bug.

Swiggy’s official statement regarding the matter read, “Some users may note incorrect discount amounts in their order history page. However, users actually paid as per the prescribed discount amount during the checkout. Customers paid the correct amount. This discrepancy in order history and actual paid value is due to a tech bug which our teams have fixed. Now back to ordering your favorite food!”

In summary, Swiggy users were not intentionally charged extra for their orders. The alleged overcharges were the result of a technical issue within Swiggy’s system, which the company has since rectified. Customers can now continue to enjoy their favorite food deliveries with confidence in the accuracy of their transactions.
