Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently shared some light-hearted remarks about the performance of his recent films at the box office. While attending the trailer launch event of Gippy Grewal’s upcoming Punjabi film, ‘Maujaan Hi Maujaan,’ Salman Khan also spoke about the changing landscape of box office benchmarks in the film industry.
Salman Khan humorously suggested that the Rs 1,000 crore mark should now be considered the new benchmark for a film’s performance at the box office. He stated, “I think the Rs 100 crore mark is going to be the rock bottom now. Everything would be Rs 400-500-600 crore plus now for the Punjabi industry, Hindi industry, every industry. Even Marathi films are doing these numbers. Rs 100 crore is not going to be a very big deal. I think the benchmark should be Rs 1000 crore for a film right now.”
Gippy Grewal, reacting to Salman’s perspective on box office numbers, said, “When our films used to do business of Rs 10-15 crore, we would be surprised. Last time, when asked if our film can do Rs 100 crore, we didn’t know what to say. But by God’s grace, everything went well. If Salman sir is saying, then something huge will happen.”
Salman Khan, with his characteristic wit, responded, “Mere pe mat jana bhai, picture pe jana, kyuki mere khud ke predictions meri films pe nahi chal rahe (Don’t go by what I say brother, go by the film as my predictions about my own films are not seemingly working).”
While Salman Khan light-heartedly commented on the changing dynamics of box office success, it’s worth noting that both ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘Pathaan’ have already crossed the Rs 1,000 crore milestone globally. Shah Rukh Khan’s latest release, ‘Jawan,’ is also poised to break that record, having already earned around Rs 900 crore.
On the professional front, Salman Khan is eagerly awaiting the release of ‘Tiger 3,’ an action-packed film that reunites him with Katrina Kaif. Scheduled for a November release and directed by Maneesh Sharma, ‘Tiger 3’ features Emraan Hashmi as the main antagonist. Salman Khan was last seen in the film ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan,’ which did not fare well at the box office.
