Rishikesh: Expect to Pay 30% More for Rafting This Year

The much-anticipated rafting season in Rishikesh commenced last weekend. It’s one of those destinations that is internationally famed for offering exhilarating white-water rafting adventures along the Ganga River, and lures travelers from far and near.

This year, however, brings a significant change, as officials from the Rafting Association announced a potential increase in fares, marking the first rate hike in the past five years. The anticipated rise is estimated to be in the range of 20 to 30 percent, adding an element of novelty and a slight financial adjustment for adventure seekers.

Rishikesh offers an array of rafting experiences at five distinct locations, each with its own unique appeal. These locations include Phoolchatti, Brahmpuri, Marine Drive, Shivpuri, and Kaudiyala, as per the reports.

Among these options, Kaudiyala stands out, offering the longest rafting route, spanning an entire day of thrilling rapids and scenic beauty. Meanwhile, Shivpuri, Brahmpuri, and Marine Drive provide adventures lasting three, four, and five hours, respectively, catering to a range of preferences and time constraints.

As per the Ganga River Rafting Rotation Committee, the current fares for these adrenaline-pumping experiences are as follows: INR 2,500 for Kaudiyala, INR 1,500 for Marine Drive, INR 1,000 for Shivpuri, and INR 600 for Brahmpuri per person. However, local rafting companies have expressed their intent to revise these prices upward, a decision that may impact adventure enthusiasts planning a visit to this breathtaking destination.

Dinesh Bhatt, the chief of the committee, explained that despite enduring significant losses during the COVID-19 pandemic, they have refrained from increasing rafting fares over the past five years. Inflation, however, has become a pressing concern, and they will meet soon to decide on the matter of fare hikes, he further added.

It’s important to note that the Rishikesh and Muni-ki-Reti areas host approximately 260 rafting companies, which play a pivotal role in the local tourism industry. These companies not only attract tourists from far and wide but also contribute to job creation, both directly and indirectly, in the region.

Furthermore, the rafting association has consistently voiced its concerns to the tourism department regarding what they perceive as inadequate arrangements at rafting points, causing difficulties for both rafting companies and tourists. This ongoing dialogue highlights the significance of ensuring a seamless and safe experience for all adventure enthusiasts visiting this iconic destination.
