MotoGP Bharat: Could the Season Speed Record Be Shattered on Sunday?

When the first MotoGP Bharat race revs up on Sunday at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, there’s a tantalizing possibility that the MotoGP season’s speed record could be in jeopardy.

This marks a significant moment as the motorsports extravaganza graces Greater Noida’s Buddh International Circuit, renowned for hosting Formula 1 races in the past.

The current high-speed record for this season stands at a scorching 366.1 kmph, courtesy of Brad Binder from Red Bull KTM.

However, the organizers of MotoGP Bharat are eyeing something even more remarkable. They believe that the newly homologated Buddh International Circuit has the potential to propel a rider to speeds of 370 kmph, all thanks to its impressive 1006-meter-long back straight. What sets this straight stretch apart is its unique design: it’s divided into two segments.

The first part is a downhill section, primed for maximum acceleration, allowing riders to unleash their machines to their fullest potential. The latter segment, in contrast, is an uphill climb, enabling riders to brake late while maintaining their top speeds.

Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Sporting Officer of Dorna Sports, expressed his admiration for the circuit’s transformation, stating, “The changes made to the Buddh International Circuit are truly remarkable. This track now stands witness to India’s commitment to hosting world-class motorsport events. We believe the circuit has the potential to register speed that could rewrite the MotoGP record books.”

Another element that could contribute to the record-breaking attempt is the stadium section on turns 9 and 10. This section’s design acts as a camber, allowing riders to slingshot out of the turns with optimal speed.

Amit Sandill, Director Racing of Fairstreet Sports, shared his excitement, saying, “MotoGP Bharat is poised to redefine speed in the world of motorcycle racing. The Buddh International Circuit has undergone remarkable modifications, and it will be breathtaking to see the riders achieve mind-boggling speeds.”

As the anticipation builds for the first-ever MotoGP Bharat race at this revamped circuit, all eyes will be on the riders, the track, and the clock to see if they can indeed shatter the season’s speed record. The potential for history-making moments is palpable, making this race an unmissable spectacle for motorsport enthusiasts.
