Lionel Messi Claims Lack of Recognition from PSG After World Cup Win

Lionel Messi, the Argentine football legend, has expressed his disappointment with his former club, Paris St Germain (PSG), for not recognizing his achievements following his victory in the FIFA World Cup with Argentina.

Messi, who recently made the move to the United States to join Inter Miami, played for PSG from 2021 to 2023. However, in a recent interview with a Spanish livestreaming YouTube channel, the superstar discussed his time with PSG, particularly after helping Argentina defeat France in the World Cup final.

Speaking in the interview with OLGA en Vivo, Messi revealed, “I was the only player on the entire Argentine team that his club didn’t recognize. But that’s okay.” He further explained, “But it is also understandable that I was in the country against which we had won the final and prevented them from winning the World Cup again. The truth is, I had a nice relationship with him (France star Kylian Mbappe) and with everyone else there.”

During Messi’s tenure with PSG, there were moments of tension, with PSG fans booing him and cheering his teammate Mbappe on occasion. Reflecting on his experience, Messi stated, “I always say things happen for a reason. It wasn’t always good, but I won the World Cup while there.”

In addition to his PSG-related comments, Messi also addressed his chances of playing in the next FIFA World Cup, saying, “I want to arrive at the next Copa America in good condition, then I will see depending on how I am. I’m not thinking about the next World Cup yet. The years have passed and we have to see how I feel, I will see it day by day.”

Despite his incredible career achievements, including winning the Ballon d’Or a record seven times and securing the most European Golden Boots, Messi disclosed that he did not take any of these trophies with him when he moved to Inter Miami. Instead, he mentioned that all of these prestigious awards remain in Barcelona.
