
Neha Thakur Secures Silver in Girl’s Dinghy ILCA-4, Marking India’s First Medal in Sailing at the Asian Games
Indian sailor Neha Thakur achieved a remarkable feat by clinching the silver medal in the girl’s dinghy ILCA-4 event at the Asian Games 2023 held in Ningbo, China. Neha, a promising talent from the National Sailing School Bhopal, displayed her sailing prowess throughout the competition.
While Neha finished with a total of 32 points, it was her net score of 27 that secured her the second position in the competition. The gold medal went to Noppassorn Khunboonjan of Thailand, and Singapore’s Kiera Marie Carlyle settled for the bronze with a net score of 28.
In sailing competitions, the competitor’s worst score from all the races is subtracted from the total points to determine the net score. The sailor with the lowest net score is adjudged the winner. Neha Thakur’s consistent performance and ability to minimize her worst score earned her the well-deserved silver medal.
The girl’s dinghy ILCA-4 category at the Asian Games 2023 consisted of 11 races, and Neha’s dedication and skill in the sport shone through as she secured her place on the podium. The ILCA-4 is defined as a one-design dinghy class in the laser series, emphasizing skill and technique in the competition.
