Detecting Fakes: Identifying Fraudulent Video Calls

As technology advances, fraudulent video calls are becoming more prevalent, blurring the line between reality and deception. In our increasingly virtual lives, video calls with friends and family are common. But what happens when these video calls turn out to be elaborate hoaxes?

In a recent incident in July, a man in Kerala fell victim to a scam and lost Rs 40,000. The victim, Radhakrishnan, received a video call from an unknown number that appeared to be a former colleague. During the call, the caller requested money for a supposed medical emergency. Radhakrishnan transferred the funds, only to later realize he had fallen prey to an AI scam.

The incident underscores the growing sophistication of digital deception. To protect yourself from such scams, consider recording suspicious calls and using voice analysis tools when possible. As digital deception becomes more sophisticated, it’s essential to stay vigilant and safeguard your online interactions.
