The picturesque beach town of Digha, nestled in the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal, is gearing up to offer a new attraction for tourists – creek cruises. Anticipated to debut around the festive season of Durga Puja, this addition promises to enhance the charm of the already beloved beach town. These creek cruises are expected to mirror the experiences one can enjoy in the Sundarbans.
Reports suggest that the creek off the Bay of Bengal serves as an ideal location for these cruises, offering calm waters away from the rough sea. The creek cruise is projected to last approximately one hour and will commence its journey from the Nayakali Temple, situated just 4 kilometers away from Old Digha. Initially, there will be two cruise trips per day, providing visitors with ample opportunities to explore this new facet of Digha.
This novel addition of creek tourism is expected to attract more travelers to Digha, particularly during the festive fervor of Durga Puja. The cruise vessel is expected to have a capacity of around 80 passengers and will embark from the jetty point near the Nayakali Temple.
Digha as a Tourist Destination

The beach town serves as a popular weekend getaway from Kolkata and Odisha, benefiting from its well-connected status via road and railways, ensuring accessibility for travelers.
While Digha is a favored tourist destination, it distinguishes itself by offering a relatively tranquil atmosphere compared to other bustling beach towns. The coastal ambiance of Digha appeals to travelers seeking serene getaways.
With the advent of creek cruises, Digha is poised to offer even more activities and opportunities for exploration. The mangroves, which have often remained unexplored by tourists, will now be accessible through creek cruises, allowing travelers to uncover the natural wonders of Digha in a whole new light.
